Callout: Shape Leicester's Community Agenda this election

From now until 11 June, I want to know what issues are most important to you in this general election. My goal is to demystify what candidates are campaigning for and what they believe in. To be clear, I’m not here as an expert. I’m working for you for a few weeks, investigating the answers and holding candidates to account. I’ll likely pull in some of my colleagues to help.

What can I do?

Let’s start by casting the net wide: What questions do you have for your local candidates? It might be something about housing, the climate crisis or fighting inequality. Whatever the issue is, we'll put your questions to candidates and publish what they say. Share them in the survey below — and we’ll work to get them answered.

Who can take part?

It's crucial that as many people in Leicester join in and share their questions. We're particularly interested in hearing from women, people of colour, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, and people from working-class backgrounds.

How to get involved

Your questions will shape Leicester's Community Agenda — a list of priorities that will drive our election coverage and ensure your voice is heard.

Here are a few examples of what we're looking for:

I'm struggling to find an affordable rented home in the city as landlord's drive prices up. The properties I have found within my budget are in poor condition, often with lots of mould. As MP, how are you going to ensure rents stay low?

My son is experiencing mental health issues but cannot access the support he needs on the NHS. How are you going to ensure the residents in your constituency can get mental health help without having to pay for private therapy?

My water bill has nearly doubled in the past two months. Meanwhile, I keep reading news reports about sewage in our rivers and canals. What will you do to stop water companies raising bills while they continue to pollute our waterways?

Once you've completed the survey, you can also share this callout with groups you’re in and with friends, family, and neighbours in Leicester, so they can add their voice to the agenda. You can ask as many questions as you'd like.

You may submit your questions in whatever language you're most comfortable with. The survey is translatable into Polish, Gujarati, Punjabi, Romanian, Urdu, Somali, Arabic (Egypt), Arabic (Saudi Arabia), Arabic (United Arab Emirates), Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), and Bengali.
